Bus Accident on Islamabad-Lahore Highway Kills 13, Injures 32 Others

A deadly bus accident took place near Kallar Kahar on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway on Saturday, claiming 13 lives and injuring at least 32 others, official sources reported.

The passenger bus veered off the Islamabad-Lahore Highway into the opposite lane and overturned near Kallar Kahar according to reports. Following the deadly incident, a criminal complaint was filed against the bus driver and its owner among others.

According to official reports, a total of 13 people were killed in the accident, out of which five had died on the spot and were yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, 32 people sustained injuries and were transported to Kallar Kahar Hospital for treatment.

Motorway police officials filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kallar Kahar police station, claiming the bus driver, bus owner, manager of the bus company and motor vehicle examiner as those who are responsible for the accident.

According to emerging reports the bus was not running in a fit condition when it left Rawalpindi station, however, the transport company said the bus was in decent condition for a safe trip.

Regardless of the complaint and the vehicle’s fault, the driver was also to be held responsible for the accident as he over-run the bus and lost control.

Following the accident, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Twitter said he was “deeply grieved by the loss of lives” in the accident and sent his sympathies and prayers to the bereaved families.
