PM Sharif Leaves for France to Attend New Global Financing Pact Summit

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday left for France to attend the New Global Financing Pact Summit in Paris, sources said.

The Pakistani premier is visiting France at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.

The Global Financing Pact Summit will be a forum for discussion and consultation on changes in the global financial system. The summit is aimed at addressing the challenges of sustainable development, alternative and renewable energy sources, environment and climate change the world is currently faced with.

As a member of G-77, Prime Minister Sharif will address the summit on how adversely Pakistan has been affected by climate change, particularly with heavy rains and flash floods which hit the country the worst last year.

The summit will prove to be an opportunity for the leaders to discuss the contours of a new global architecture capable of meeting the challenges of financing sustainable development, environment, energy transition and climate change agenda.

Besides attending the Summit, the Pakistani premier will hold separate bilateral meetings with the world leaders and the economic challenges the Pakistani government is currently faced with.
