Sri Lanka to Host Afghanistan’s Home Series Against Pakistan

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will host the bilateral one-day home series between Pakistan and Afghanistan next month.

According to reliable sources at the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), which has its headquarters in Kabul, the SLC has been approached about allowing three One Day Internationals (ODI) against Pakistan to be played at the same venue, Daily Mirror reported.

It is also said that the SLC has agreed to rent out its ground and the Stadium.

“As Afghanistan does not have any stadium and playing in Sri Lanka will be a good preparation for Asia Cup and the World Cup to follow soon after,” the report said.

“We were also keen to host these matches in the UAE or Qatar, but it was not feasible considering the extreme heat climate there,” it added.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) previously hosted Afghanistan’s matches in the UAE and India, respectively. However, India was not also considered for this bilateral series due to concerns about the Indian government’s potential refusal to grant visas to Pakistani players.

The team members and support staff are thought to have been instructed to gather in Sri Lanka on August 10 or 12. The dates and one venue for the three ODI matches are probably to be finalized soon.
