JACKSON — U.S. Congressman Liz Cheney votes for Donald in Republican Party Criticized Trump, who played a key role in the congressional probe into the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, was defeated on Tuesday by the first Trump-backed challenger, Edison Research predicts.

Cheney's defeat by Harriet Hedgeman came after a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol building last year, before expelling the Republicans who supported his impeachment. It marks an important victory in the presidential campaign.

Cheney's defeat would have been unthinkable just two years before him. The daughter of a former Vice President, she hails from Wyoming's most prominent politicians. And in Washington, she was the #3 Republican in the House, an influential voice in Republican politics and policy, and had the highest conservative voting record.

But on January 6, 2021, after a mob of Trump supporters attacked the US Capitol, Cheney voted to impeach Trump and said he would never work in the Oval Office again. It was her main task to do so. She survived Republican accusations and death threats to serve as the leader of a congressional panel investigating Trump's role in the insurgency.

Cheney explained that her defection was the beginning of a new chapter in her political career, and a few, including her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, delivered a speech to the supporters of A vast field surrounded by mountains and hay bales.

"Our work is not done yet," she said.

US Senator Lisa Markowski (Alaska) also voted for impeachment, facing off against another Trump-supporting candidate on Tuesday, but her fate remains unclear. Voting for that primary, a nonpartisan format with the top four vote-getters advancing to the general election, has not yet closed.

According to Edison Research, his 18% of the expected votes were tallied, with Hageman leading the Republican field with his 65.1% share of the vote, followed by Cheney with 30.3%. .

Wyoming and Alaska are both definite Republican voters, and both outcomes depend on whether President Joe Biden's Democrats lose a very thin majority in Congress. Republicans are expected to recapture the House and possibly gain control of the Senate.

  1. Dick Cheney called Trump a 'coward' in his daughter Liz's ad

  2. Republicans remove Cheney from leadership role for criticism of Trump

Still, Cheney's ouster is the latest sign of Trump's unwavering influence over the Republican Party. Trump, who has hinted at running for president in 2024, has made ending Cheney's congressional career a priority among 10 House Republicans supporting impeachment in 2021.

Vice President Cheney's daughter, Republican former Vice President Dick Cheney, used her position on a congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 attacks to Trump's actions over the Capitol riots and his false claims about the 2020 election continue to draw attention and try to convince fellow Republicans. The former president is a threat to democracy.

House of Representatives Cheney voted to impeach Trump on charges of instigating a Capitol riot, and Senate Markowski voted to convict him of that charge.Trump. Mr. was eventually acquitted.

Cheney, the daughter of former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, used her position in her campaign and on his January 6 committee to advocate for the Capitol riots. We have continued to draw attention to Trump's actions and his continued false allegations. Cheating in the 2020 election is a threat to democracy for the former president to convince his fellow Republicans.

Terry Sullivan, the political strategist who managed Republican Sen.

"Liz Cheney isn't fighting for reelection, she's fighting for the direction of the Republican Party." He said, noting that some observers are debating whether Cheney should start the 2024 presidential election. "It's not the end, it's kind of the beginning."

His two recent polls show the challenges Cheney faces. Despite her congressional voting record in favor of Trump's agenda, Cheney alienated many Wyoming Republicans with her relentless criticism of Trump.

In a survey conducted by Casper Star Her Tribune in Wyoming from his July 7th to his 11th, Cheney trailed Hageman by 52% to her 30%. A University of Wyoming poll released last week put Hageman's lead at her 29 points.

Cheney's supporters believe she still has a chance if enough Democrats and independents intersect to vote for her . poll.

Jim King, a professor of political science at the University of Wyoming, said Cheney's opponents held her position on impeachment and her January 6 committee as contrary to Wyoming's interests. Said he was drawing.

"They all mean the same thing: 'She doesn't represent us,'" said King, noting that consistent distance in the polls meant Cheney would lose. added that it shows "I see no reason to question these results at this time."
