Two teams racing backwards in pursuit of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the leader of the National League West, open up what could be a crucial four-game series.
Thursday night at the Giants and Padres in San Diego. Both teams are having a hard time.
The Giants recovered from a 4-0 deficit in Arizona, won 7-5 and then flew to San Diego late Thursday night, losing six games in a row. San Francisco is 4-12 in the last 16 games.
The Padres were swept home in Seattle in a two-game Interleague series. Beyond that, San Diego has lost 5 of the last 6 games and 8 of the last 10 games. Another amazing stat — Padres is 21-18 at his home this season.
Padres manager Bob Melvin believes his club is imminent.
