Nolan Arenado hit two home runs and drove with three home runs to lift the St. Louis Cardinals, which passed the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.
The Phillies recovered from the 5-0 and 6-5 deficits, but Arenado beat the 6-6 tie with nine home runs. Relief pitcher Ryan Helsley (4-1) was the winner, ending the match with two scoreless innings.
Serantney Dominguez (4-2) was defeated after allowing Arenado a decisive home run.
Both starting pitchers struggled. Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore allowed two his 2/3 innings with seven hits and five runs, while Kyle Gibson allowed Phillies' four innings with seven hits, two walks and two hits for six runs.
The Cardinals jumped to a 5-0 lead with four home runs at a time. After Paul Goldschmidt hit a single, Arenado lined up two runs of home runs.
After that, Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepes and Dylan Carlson were home. This is the first time the Cardinals have hit four home runs and the eleventh in Major League Baseball history.

Phillies drew the game in the sixth inning. Relief Packy Naughton walked Stott, threw a wild pitch, and allowed Rhys Hoskins to hit infield. Nick Castellanos greeted relief junior Fernandez with a RBI single.
The Cardinals regained the lead with Arenado's nine home runs.
