Fashion trends making a comeback this year and where to buy them

Fashion trends often come and go, but some styles have the power to make a comeback. In 2023, we’re seeing the resurgence of many popular fashion trends from the past. From the oversized blazers of the 80s to the platform shoes of the early 2000s, here are the fashion trends that are making a comeback —and where to buy them.

Oversized Blazer

The oversized blazers of the 80s are making a comeback — and for good reason. These blazers can be paired with trousers or a skirt for a more sophisticated, business look or with jeans for a more dressed-down vibe. 

Bucket Hat 

The mom, dads, kids and teens of the 90s are rejoicing with the revival of the bucket hat trend. They are a versatile accessory that can be paired with almost any summer outfit. From Billabong’s cheeky and cute options to Amazon’s basics, these hats are the perfect accessory for hanging out by a pool, at the beach or on a patio. 

Chunky Sneakers

Chunky sneakers, also affectionately known as “dad sneakers,” were popular in the 90s and early 2000s. They’re comfortable and can be worn with jeans, leggings or dresses, depending on the mood and vibe of an outing. 

Low-rise Jeans 

Don’t kill the messenger, ok?! Low-rise jeans reached their peak popularity in the early 2000s — and are clawing their way back into the fashion world of 2023. Sitting below the waist, these jeans are often paired with crop tops and tank tops, however nowadays, we‘re even also seeing them being worn with cropped jackets, button-ups and corset tops for a more elevated look. 

Wide-leg pants 

Popular from the 1980s until well into the early 2000s, the wide-leg style is definitely a retro-inspired silhouette. Combining the broken-in feel of the wide leg and the mid-weight denim material, these DU/ER jeans make for an extremely comfortable option. The high-waist detailing contours the behind while also elongating the look of legs making this an extremely flattering fit.

Flare Jeans 

Cher and Sonny were at the forefront of bringing the bell bottoms onto the scene in the 60s and 70s. In the 90s, the bootcut arose paying homage to this style in a more tamed manner. Though we might not be seeing the extreme flares back — yet — kick flare jeans, inspired by the beloved bell bottoms and boot cuts, are definitely kicking their way onto the scene and into the everyday wardrobe of today.

Mini backpacks were popular in the early 2000s and now they‘re back. Though they‘ve been slowly making their way back for the last few years. This accessory combines the idea of a chunky backpack with the sleekness of a purse in the cutest, most fashionable way. Platform Shoes

Platform shoes were popular in the 1990s and early 2000s. Today, they’re being seen on runways and in street fashion. By contrast to the mini, the maxi is also making its way back into the mainstream. From denim to cargo to silk, 2023 is the year for multiple maxi moments in a multitude of different materials. Zara is especially doing the trend justice with this long denim skirt. 

Sheer 

The ultra-femme, sultry sheer look is shining right now, romanticizing date night outfits in the most beautiful way. From playful ruffles to simple yet chic styles, the sheer look adds a feminine touch to typical silhouettes. 

Bridgerton-inspired 

It‘s no surprise that costume drama is coming in hot this year with Queen Charlotte ruling the most-watched Netflix list this Spring. Incorporating puff sleeves and corsets into the day-to-day details, Bridgerton-inspire looks are bringing back those Regency period styles. Cargo Pants

Pocket-lovers rejoice! Utilitarian wear is back and bringing with it, the much-loved cargo pant. With this revival, we‘re seeing tailored silhouettes constructed from elevated fabrics in bolder colours.
