SHOW IT OFF
Re “Act of self-defence” (Brian Lilley, Jan. 31): We the citizens of Canada should be told the report by Justice Rouleau at the same time as Trudeau learns it. Period, end of story. The government has been as opaque as they can be when it comes to how they rule over their citizens. Remember they work for us, the people of Canada. Allowing the government wiggle room to violate our rights and freedoms in the Charter is unacceptable. If it is tolerated, then we are on a short path to a dictatorship or communism. Not in Canada, no thank you.

JUST SAY NO
Re “Public service workers’ wage demands unrealistic” (Lorne Gunter, Feb. 1): The thing about contract negotiations that nobody mentions is that negotiators for the government can always say ‘no.’ There is no compelling reason for government, who barter with taxpayer dollars to settle wage disputes, to continue to talk about unreasonable demands. If the PSAC workers want to strike, let them. Shutter any building that will not give citizens grief. Declare lighthouse workers and firefighters essential services. Hire replacement workers for any other jobs that need some attention. When strikers tire of picketing in sub-zero weather, their expectations will moderate. We should pay our civil servants market rates for the work they do, not more.

ZERO THOUGHT
Another politically motivated decree from the Trudeau Liberals that will do nothing to alleviate a perceived problem. Plastic bags. Whatever happened to the idea of making recyclable/compostable bags? I’d use the plastic bags that I got from stores and make use of them and then afterwards use them to line garbage cans in the house. Now I buy single use garbage bags and throw them out like millions of other people. Zero thought or foresight from our government or some expensive consulting firm.
