No motive other than violence: Twin brothers planning a shootout at the Bank of Victoria

This pair may have been intended to recreate the 1997 North Hollywood gun battle

Just a week after the quiet Victorian Street exploded into a gun battle with a heavily armed bank robber, Saanich Police Chief Dean Ducy Was a great opportunity at a press conference on Tuesday that the city's tactical forces happened to be nearby.

"I don't want to think about what would have happened if they weren't there," he said.

Duthie said three of the six officers injured in the shootout were hospitalized in the intensive care unit. The chief police officer refused to disclose his name or even the specific injuries suffered by the police, but said he was both conscious and able to have a conversation.

"The injury is serious, but the recovery process has begun," Duthie said. "What we're still dealing with is a shocking event."

Some of the most shocking developments to date have been motivated by anything but fetishes during the weekend. There was a revelation that everything was coordinated by a pair of 22-year-old twin brothers who may not have been attached. Because of violence.

There was no criminal record. But their social media was flooded with pictures of firearms and armed conflict. Witnesses then reported that the brothers acted as if they enjoyed a conflict with law enforcement agencies.

Sheri Flyer, who was in the bank at the time of the robbery, told CFAX1070 thatafter the robbery was escorted to the bank's vault. , They were mysteriously waiting until the police arrived.

"What were they waiting for ... they might have received the money and left soon," she said.

Instead, the two suspects fired almost immediately into a white van carrying police officers from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, opening ammunition holes.

A viral video shot from across the street captured what happened next. A policeman sprinted toward the bank and fired at the suspect as a nearly constant gunshot rang. Two robbers were killed on the scene. Miraculously, the civilian was not injured.

On Saturday, British Columbia RCMP confirmed that the two dead robbers were Mathew and Isaac Auchterlonie. The pair, from Duncan, about an hour north of Victoria, seemed to head to the bank with a racing stripe on the hood at the 1992 Toyota Camry.

The typical motive for a bank robbery is money, but in this case the police are less confident. "The motive behind the armed robbery and the subsequent exchange of gunshots with the police has not yet been determined," read the RCM CPpl statement. Alex Belbe.

Canadian troops confirmed this week that Matthew attempted to join the army but was rejected due to a failed Canadian aptitude test. This test is a multiple-choice test that consists primarily of math and English, with some practice versions ofexisting online, at the level of about 10th grade.

Otherwise, most of what is known about siblings is done through the Instagram account maintained by Isaac. In a brief career, Isaac describes himself as a "patriot" and a "WWII Pacific War enthusiast." Posts are almost entirely dedicated to clips from Hollywood war movies and war documentaries, with occasional rebel memes scattered around.

In one video uploaded by the account owner, you can see a pamphlet banning "assault-type" firearms by the Trudeau government and igniting it.

Other uploaded images and videos show a selection of long guns exhibited and fired by brothers, such as the Russian SKS semi-automatic firearm and the Mossberg 500 shotgun. I am. In Canada, it is legal to own both guns as "unrestricted" firearms, but the post shows a magazine that has been illegally modified to hold more than five rounds, called the "Seed of Freedom." I am.

Commemorating the anniversary of the 1997 North Hollywood gun battle, which has received particular attention. In a post, a California bank robber who created a striking resemblance to the brother's own attempted robbery.

Los Angeles emphasized the inability of police weapons at the time after two perpetrators wearing homemade bulletproof vests and heavy weapons robbed a branch of Bank of America Participated in a public shootout with the police. Many pistol ammunition fired by robbers simply bounced off harmlessly.

In several local media interviews, retired Saanich officer Chris Hosley noted the eerie similarities between the 1997 shootout and the robbery last week. "I don't know if this is a counterfeit ... but I think the similarities are a bit shocking," he told Victoria's radio Adam Sterling.

On February 28, 1997, in the North Hollywood Bank robbery case, two gunmen in bulletproof vests robbed the bank and&It shook the United States because it engaged with a corresponding police officer with automatic weapons.

The 1997 case trains US and Canadian law enforcement agencies to prepare for encounters with heavily armed and armed suspects. I was forced to do so. It is this exact doctrine that Auchterlonies may have been withdrawn very quickly by Victorian police.

On Tuesday, Duthie said, "I know the training is very extensive."
