Observers say it's time for the federal government to publish a list of the highest-paid civil servants

All but two states require annual disclosure of six-figure public sector salaries. The time has come, government watchers say. The federal government will follow suit.

The federal government, the country's largest employer, currently employs 319,601 people.

Franco Terrazzano, federal director of the CTF, said it was time for the federal government to follow the states and publish a so-called "Sunshine List" of civil servants earning more than $100,000.

"The government's Sunshine list is 'Transparency 101,'" he said.

"It is long past the federal government to do so."

All provinces except Quebec and Prince Edward Island disclose large public sector salaries. I maintain some kind of program.

"We are in a time when trust in government is very low," said Aaron Woodrick, director of the domestic policy program at his Laurier Institute for McDonald's. I'm here.

"If you want people to trust your government, a good way is for it to be as transparent as possible."

Wudrick said he should expect heightened skepticism in the future. They range from legitimate concerns about the use of tax dollars to promoting conspiracy theories in the dark corners of the internet.

"There is no real reason or rationale for the federal government not to do it, other than that they don't want to do it," Wudrick said.
