QMJHL roundup: Remparts swamp Islanders with offence, defence in 4-0 win

QUEBEC — The Quebec Remparts topped the Eastern Conference this season with timely offence, stingy defence and quality goaltending in compiling an impressive 53-12-1-2 record.

They started the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs on Friday night by repeating their recipe of success and were rewarded with a 4-0 victory over the visiting Charlottetown Islanders.

James Malatesta, Zachary Bolduc, Charles Savoie and Justin Robidas scored for the Remparts and netminder William Rousseau only had to stop 13 shots for the shutout.

The Remparts led 1-0 after the first period and increased that to 3-0 after 40 minutes. They also outshot the Islanders 48-13.

Sherbrooke leads best-of-seven series 1-0

SHERBROOKE, Que. — The Sherbrooke Phoenix got five goals from five different players to defeat the visiting Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 5-2 in the opening game of their best-of-seven playoff series.

Joshua Roy, Joe Fleming, Justin Gill, Jacob Melanson and Hugo Primeau all scored for the Phoenix, who outshot the Armada 32-19.

Jonathan Fauchon and Thomas Paquet scored for the Armada, who trailed 1-0 after the first period but entered the third tied 1-1.

WILDCATS 4 DRAKKAR 3 (OT)

Moncton leads best-of-seven series 1-0

MONCTON, N.B. — Jonas Taibel scored at 4:35 of overtime as the Moncton Wildcats opened their best-of-seven playoff series with a 4-3 win over the visiting Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

Alex Mercier scored twice for the Wildcats, who got a three-assist performance from Charles Beaudoin. Yoan Loshing also scored for the winners, who were outshot 38-33.

Marc-Antoine Seguin, Louis-Charles Plourde and Marshall Lessard scored for the Drakkar, who led 2-1 after the first period. The game was tied 3-3 heading into the third.

MOOSEHEADS 4 EAGLES 1

Halifax leads best-of-seven series 1-0

HALIFAX, N.S. — Josh Lawrence and Brady Schultz each had a goal and assist and Zachary L’Heureux chipped in with two assists as the Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Cape Breton Eagles 4-1 in the opening game of their best-of-seven playoff series.

Markus Vidicek and Braeden MacPhee also scored for the Mooseheads, who led 2-0 after the first period and 3-0 heading into the third.

Angelo Fullerton scored a third-period goal for the Eagles, who outshot the Mooseheads 38-30 but could only get one puck past Halifax netminder Mathis Rousseau.

OLYMPIQUES 7 SEA DOGS 1

Gatineau leads best-of-seven series 1-0

GATINEAU, Que. — Zachary Dean scored three goals and added an assist as the Gatineau Olympiques defeated the visiting Saint John Sea Dogs 7-1 in the opening game of their best-of-seven playoff series.

Antonin Verreault, Olivier Nadeau, Will Chisholm and Alexis Gendron also scored for the Olympiques, who led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after 40 minutes. Tristan Luneau chipped in with three assists, while Isaac Belliveau had two helpers.

Jared Cosman scored a third-period goal for the Sea Dogs, who were outshot 52-22.

Victoriaville leads best-of-seven series 1-0

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — Raphael Blouin scored at 4:26 of the second overtime period as the Victoriaville Tigres outlasted the visiting Drummondville Voltigeurs 5-4 in the opening game of their best-of-seven playoff series.

Nikita Prishchepov scored twice for the Tigres, while Justin Larose and Maxime Pellerin netted singles.

Drew Elliott, Luke Woodworth, Maveric Lamoureux and Loic Goyette scored for the Voltigeurs.

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Emeric Gaudet scored at 11:08 of the second overtime period as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies edged the Shawinigan Cataractes 7-6 in the opening game of their best-of-seven playoff series.

Thomas Verdon, Tristan Allard, Benjamin Brunelle, Mathis Perron, Bill Zonnon and Daniil Bourash also scored for the Huskies.

Alex Bonefon scored twice for the Cataractes, while Stephane Jr. Juard, Felix Lacerte, Lorenzo Canonica and Lou-Felix Denis netted singles.

OCEANIC 4 SAGUENEENS 3 (OT)

Rimouski leads best-of-seven series 1-0

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Luke Coughlin scored at 2:13 of overtime as the visiting Rimouski Oceanic edged the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the opening game of their best-of-seven playoff series.

Spencer Gill, Xavier Filion and Alexandre Blais also scored for the Oceanic, who outshot the hosts 30-17.

Peteris Bulans, Zachary Gravel and Emmanuel Vermette scored for the Sagueneens.
