Washington (AP) — On Thursday's Supreme Court on climate change , Used the country's major air pollution control laws to limit ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.
With a 6 to 3 vote, the majority are conservatives, and the Clean Air Act gives the Environmental Protection Agency broad authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. No, the court said it would contribute to global warming.
Court decisions can complicate government plans to combat climate change. The proposal to regulate power plant emissions is planned by the end of the year.
President Joe Biden aims to cut the country's greenhouse gas emissions in half by the end of the decade and to have a emission-free electricity sector by 2035. Power plants account for about 30% of carbon dioxide emissions.
