Taylor Swift claims she wrote lyrics for Shake It Off in new copyright dispute

Taylor Swift claims to have written all the lyrics to Shake It Off.

She made this declaration when addressing a 2017 copyright lawsuit alleging that he stole words from his 2014 hit song.

A lawsuit filed by Playas Gon Play songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler was dismissed in 2018 but reinstated by an appeals panel the following year.

In December 2021, a judge ruled that the case should be decided by a jury, but a trial date has not yet been set.

Taylor's lawyers support her argument, arguing that no single entity can monopolize terms that are widely used in her popular culture.

Her attorney, Peter Anderson, said: (the) plaintiffs' allegations stand out as particularly unsubstantiated."

Shake It Off was Swift's lead on her fifth studio album 1989. was a single. Meanwhile, 3LW released her Playas Gon' Play in 2001 as part of her band's eponymous debut album Girl.

Taylor defended the use of jets after topping the celebrity league table of the biggest civilian aircraft polluters last month.
