Early in the morning on the day of the crime, Zhu's neighbors heard the sounds of distressed animals and saw Zhu kicking a kitten in the backyard and wagging its tail repeatedly.
Every time he shook his head, Zhu slammed the kitten's body into the concrete. After that, he put the kitten on the grass in the middle of the yard, put its paws on its head and pressed it to the ground, pulled its tail with his right hand and left. It turns out that the kitten is alive, but hardly moving. The kitten was taken to a veterinary emergency clinic and was determined to be in severe distress and too seriously injured to be treated. It was humanely euthanized.
The court found that Zhu, who had come to Canada from China at the age of 15 and lived with his mother with the intention of completing school and later attending college, , at the time of the crime, he felt lonely and stressed about studying, so he bought a kitten.
Not only has he never had a kitten and is allergic to them, but he has found managing pets to be a burden. Zhu admitted that he wanted to punish it.
Zhu, who has no criminal record, was evaluated at a Vancouver-area forensic clinic. It was found that although he had no major mental illness, he suffered from an "adjustment disorder" involving disturbances in his mood and behavior.
His District Court Judge Harbans Dhillon convicted Zhu and said Zhu seriously injured a five-pound kitten.
"In my judgment, the crime committed by Mr. Zhu consisted of an act of extreme cruelty to a defenseless animal recently in his care," the judge said. rice field. "It involved multiple acts of violence that resulted in very serious trauma. The extent of the violence is highly concerning."
