The Dale Head Community Garage in Hawes, North York, operates as a not-for-profit community enterprise, which allows us to keep our prices very low.
You also get a government rebate of 5p per liter because of the remote location.
Petrol costs £1.80 nationally, diesel £1.68 compared to £1.90.
Abby Rose, general manager of Upper Dales Community Partnerships, which operates the garage, said:
"Everyone has gotten so used to paying ridiculous prices that people often rush here from miles away.
``The more you sell, the cheaper you can sell them.''
Yesterday, a motorist said he would be happy to stand in line if it would save him a lot of money on filling up his tank.
