How to share without spending anything

BLACK FRIDAY is all about bargains and buying – but have you heard of its sister date ‘Share Saturday’?

Developed as an antidote to the annual spending frenzy, Share Saturday encourages us to share whatever we can without spending a single penny.

What you share is personal to you. It could be surplus food from your kitchen, your time to help out a friend or neighbour, or your skills and wisdom to ensure someone else achieves their career goals.

Sharing at work in all forms has never been more popular.

Official figures show more than 100,000 Brits are now on job-share contracts, while 37 per cent of staff have a mentor sharing their skills, according to HR News.

So, if you want to share the love at work this Share Saturday, here’s how to get started.

1. Share a community larder

The cost-of-living crisis is hitting everyone, but
colleagues may be reluctant to come forward with their woes.

Setting up a Community Larder is a way to combat this. Ask your co-workers to bring in basic food supplies once a month and leave them in an area where anyone in need can discreetly take them.

It’s a kind way to build community spirit at work.

2. Job Share

If your life commitments mean you can’t commit to work full-time
anymore, suggest a job-share.

Job-sharing is a form of flexible working which enables two employees to voluntarily share the responsibilities and duties of one full-time job.

While companies do not legally have to grant you a job-share, many firms will look on it positively, if they want to keep the staff involved.

Plus, they get two sets of ideas for a single role.

3. Become a mentor

Mentors are people highly experienced in your field of business
who can help you grow personally and professionally through regular one-on-one meetings.

If you have good self-awareness and a substantial level of experience in your sector, you could train to mentor others and share your skills.

Ask your HR department or meet potential mentees at mentorsme.co.uk.

4. Improve your internal comms

Internal Communications is like a newspaper or website for your company.

Done right, it lets staff know what’s going on the business
and share their success stories.

Offer to write an article, create a podcast or film a video
to share good news at your workplace.

5. Share your culture

Throughout the year there are lots of days to celebrate the
different ways we live.

From Pride to Black History Month to the International Day of
Persons with Disabilities, ask your boss if you can set up an event to share more about your community to foster greater understanding between your colleagues.

Now it’s our turn to share with you! Here are the Sun Jobs pick of the week.
