10 Scottish acts for Lanarkshire music fans to watch at Connect Music Festival

Connect Music Festival brings together some of the most influential and pioneering names in music around the world with some of Scotland's greatest heroes.

Advertised as a festival for music lovers, the inaugural event, held at the Royal Highland Center Showgrounds from 26th to 28th August, will be a memorable event for music lovers in Lanarkshire. I promise to be nothing.

Here are 10 Scottish acts to watch this summer:

Mogwai

Twenty years and nine studio albums in, Mogwai has gone from early session post-rock, garage noise, to their shows no signs of slowing down until today, when Power, minimalism, a desire for daring experimentation, Glaswegian humble rock constantly shifting parameters of what his band can achieve.

Their latest release, 'As The Love Continues', landed him #1 on the Official UK Albums Chart and also won the SAY Award for Best Album. Catch them on the Grand He parade stage on Sunday.

and joined Mogwai Stuart Braithwaite sitting down for a conversation with James Graham, Twilight Thad Head over to the Speakeasy on Saturday to pitch your tent and discuss music, Glasgow and your fascinating career so far.

TAAHLIAH

Exactly one year since debut EP release 'Angelica' TAAHLIAH has continued to push boundaries and buttons with her fiery energy, talent and on-stage demeanor. She quickly became popular. Starting out as a DJ and remixer in her underground LGBTQ+ club scenes in Glasgow and Berlin, she effortlessly flows between bold hyper-pop and classic trap and house beats.

She became the first black trance artist to be nominated for the award, and in the same year she became the first artist to win in two categories. See her on Friday at her Unknown Pleasures stage.

LVRA

R&B and carefully curated LVRA love for avant-garde electronics All too familiar sweaty club basements formulated into her sound. With her R&B vocals layering hard beats over traditional Chinese instruments and honey sweet, she won the attention and applause of many, including Lauren of her CHVRCHES and Mayberry of her. did.

Divinely inspired by the Scottish landscape, there's no better time or place to hear him live this August. Connect's Guitars headlining the & Other Machines stage on Sunday.

Nightwave

Slovenian-born, Glasgow-based DJ Maya Medvesek, better known as Nightwave, infuses world music with electronic beats and utterly unique music. Known for live shows that make things happen. She is awe-inspiring in the process. From playing in major clubs and festivals around the world to being a guest her slot on BBC RADIO 1. An ardent advocate for gender equality in the music industry, she regularly provides a platform for others, hosting her classes in production and her DJ skills for 8-year-old girls. Enjoy her exciting DJ slot at her Unknown Pleasure stage on Saturday.

Marjoline Robertson

From Shetland to Glasgow, Marjolein Robertson is connected to Moguri tent. An improvisational performer, she is inspired by folk tales and her life growing up in Shetland, and these stories and her experiences form the basis of her comedy routines. Look at it and believe it on Saturday.

Swim School

Self-proclaimed "Tesco Value Wolf" Alice,” Swim School, not content to fade into the backdrop of a crowded scene, combines anthemic indie shoegaze with melancholic lyrics. They are completely original, influenced by 90's grunge and dreamy pop. For the release of their debut EP in 2021, the band has taken these inspirations and created something vibrant and evocative.See them on Saturday's Guitars & Other Machines stage.

Barry Can't Swim

Edinburgh-born, London-based artist Barry Can't Swim - real name Joshua Mannie - is an immediate name. I mentioned He incorporates well-crafted electronic beats and jazz-inspired strings as his trademark. Drawing attention on the international club circuit with his euphoric brand of rich, textured vocals and sublime orchestral arrangements, he is a major up-and-coming figure. Black Scott Pods

Blacks in Mainstream Media Hosted by Shirley MacPherson and Susie Mwanza, the Black Scott Pod has curated a safe and empowering space to share stories, jokes and laughter. Launched in October 2019, her two women didn't feel the push to make the project bigger until the pandemic and ensuing lockdown began. We discuss pop culture, current events, and personal experiences. There is something for everyone and you can't miss it. On Friday he'll laugh with Shirley and Susie at the Speakeasy tent.
