World Cup 2022 LIVE: France’s Tunisia defeat could be OVERTURNED, Argentina TOP Group C, England squad updates – latest

FRANCE'S shocking 1-0 defeat to Tunisia could be dramatically overturned.

Antoine Griezmann thought he had rescued a point for the world champions deep into stoppage time before the goal was chalked off in a controversial offside call.

But France have demanded Fifa change the result as Tunisia had kicked off before the equaliser was ruled out which goes against the rulebook.

Meanwhile, Argentina recovered from their opening-day defeat to Saudi Arabia by topping Group C with a win over Poland.

And England are training with the entire remaining squad after the departure of Arsenal star Ben White ahead of Senegal clash.

  • Partey time for London rivals

Arsenal star Thomas Partey is ready to lock horns with Uruguay's Tottenham man Rodrigo Bentancur in Doha.

Ghana ace Partey said: “Bentancur is a very good player and a great midfielder. I respect him a lot and know how careful we will have to be against him.

“He plays for a great team in Tottenham and we don’t have to be told about the quality of his game.

“But he is not the only one who is dangerous. They also have Darwin Nunez and we have seen what he can do in the Premier League."

  • Aussie stars’ ‘disbelief’ at Tunisia

Australian players thought it was a JOKE when they heard Tunisia were beating France.

Milos Degenek said: “[I said to the team] If we don't win, the Tunisians will sneak through to the round of 16 on goal difference.

"The boys thought it was my psyching them up so we won't lose. But it was actually me being serious."

Things turned up trumps for the Aussies though, as they beat Denmark to progress to the knockout stages with France.

"All 25 remaining members of Gareth Southgate's squad are out on the training field, after Arsenal defender Ben White left the camp for 'personal reasons' yesterday.

"White, one of only four outfield players not to feature in the group stage, is not expected to return to Qatar. "

  • Suarez still 'hated' in Ghana

Asamoah Gyan claims Ghanaians still "hate" Luis Suarez after his controversial handball in the 2010 World Cup.

But Ghana get the chance for revenge when they face Uruguay for a spot in the knockout stages tomorrow.

Gyan said: "Back home, everybody who watched the game, they dislike Suarez.

"He is a hero in Uruguay although people in Ghana see him as a cheat. People do hate him."

The TikTok user shared TV footage of a full-time scene of a match which they ridiculously claim to have taken in the future.

Sharing footage which they claimed was taken two weeks in the future at the World Cup final, they claimed Argentina will beat Brazil.

The bonkers video says: "I am a time traveller and Argentina just beat Brazil in the World Cup finals."

  • SunSport's Dan King in Qatar

"The controversial ending to France v Tunisia had repercussions well beyond the pitch.

"Fans of the rival nations watching the game in a popular sports bar began squaring up to each other as the drama unfolded and Antoine Griezmann's late equaliser for France was ruled out for offside by VAR.

Ivana Knoll said: "I was never afraid to be arrested to be what I am, and I don't think I can hurt someone wearing a bikini. And if that deserves to be arrested, then arrest me.

"The locals confirmed to me that I can wear whatever I want. But I didn't know that my video in a bikini walking by the sea would be such a big deal.

"The whole country is speaking about it. Everybody knows me here, and I saw that I was accepted."

I’m the ‘World Cup’s hottest fan’ - the Qataris can arrest me if they want over my ‘immodesty’ but all the locals love it
  • Tunisia fate seen on phone

Tunisia players were left helplessly watching another game on a phone to check whether they had qualified for the World Cup knockout stage.

The African nation claimed a stunning victory as they beat World Cup holders France.

But Australia’s win over Denmark meant Tunisia's historic win was rendered meaningless.

And Tunisia’s stars were left heartbroken as they saw their World Cup adventure end on a mobile phone screen.

  • Aguero in tribute to ace

Colombian footballer and Argentine First Division star Andres Balanta has died after collapsing in training.

The 22-year-old played for Atletico Tucuman, where he made seven appearances in the 2021/22 season.

Sergio Aguero responded to the news live on Twitch, saying: said: "Balanta died, they say. In training? Now?

"That’s s***, I clearly remember that the doctor told me that that can happen, and that’s why they (the doctors) don’t allow me to play because what I had…”

  • Sturridge thrills again with song

Ex-England striker Daniel Sturridge confused the internet with his Portuguese accent and signing during his World Cup predictions.

It comes just days after he SANG a song about Kylian Mbappe on live TV.

In a Portuguese accent, Sturridge said: "Group H, baby. I'm going to go with Portugal.”

And in a Ghana-inspired rendition of Bob Marley's Bad Boys, Sturridge sang: "So I'm going to go with the Black Stars, Black Stars... what you gonna do when they come for a Black Star, Black Star. Jheeeeeez."

  • Vlahovic shoots down affair rumours

Serbia star Dusan Vlahovic has strongly dismissed claims he is having an affair with team-mate Predrag Rajkovic’s wife, Ana Cakic.

He said: "Evidently these people are bored and have nothing better to do because they are frustrated or angry, but working against the national interest of the team at the moment is obviously their main job right now.

"We are more united than ever and the atmosphere in the squad has never been better. These stories are ridiculous, I just want to protect my name and my integrity, so I will take legal action if necessary.

"It's not the first time this has happened, I would've hoped that people would support the team before such an important match, but instead we are forced to talk about things that have nothing to do with it.”

  • Breaking - Pele 'stable' in hospital

Football legend Pele is in a "stable condition" and has "full control of vital functions” after being taken to hospital yesterday.

Reports from Brazil say that Pele is stable and does not need to be submitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

A note from the hospital released to the Brazilian press said: "After medical evaluation, the patient was taken to a common room, without the need for hospitalisation in a semi-intensive unit or ICU.

"The former player has full control of vital functions and stable clinical condition."

  • Fans face laser pen search

World Cup security will reportedly be ramped up to check for laser pens ahead of England's clash with Senegal.

According to the Telegraph, all fans watching the game on Sunday will have to pass through a metal detector before entrance.

And all bags will undergo a search via an X-ray machine to try and identify laser pointers, which are prohibited at the World Cup.

Both sets of fans have used lasers to try and distract opposition players while penalties were being taken in the past.

  • Szczesny reveals losing Messi bet

Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed he lost a €100 bet to Lionel Messi over Argentina's controversial penalty - and won't be paying up.

Szczesny, who saved the spot-kick but still lost 2-0, said: "We spoke before the penalty and I told would bet him €100 that he [referee] wasn't going to give it. So I've lost a bet against Messi.

"I don't know if that's allowed at the World Cup - I'm probably going to get banned for it! But I don't care right now.

"I'm not going to pay him either - he doesn't care about €100 I think he has enough."

  • French demand Tunisia result overturned

France have demanded Fifa change the result of their final group game - because Tunisia kicked off before their “equaliser” was annulled.

Antoine Griezmann thought he had rescued a point when he fired home in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

But the goal was chalked off after Kiwi ref Matthew Conger blew the final whistle for a controversial offside call.
