Music boss cum politician, Banky W has penned an emotional note and public appreciation to his wife, Adesua Etomi for standing by him and sticking with him through his political journey and campaigns.
Sharing a video of them from their campaign with some women in Etiosa Lagos, Banky W recounted how Adesua Etomi used to hate politics but chose to support him with everything.
“Susu always hated politics… So when I began talking about the burden I had to run for office, I’m sure you can imagine how she felt. She said “Banky I know you, and I know your heart… and if you’re given an opportunity, I’m sure you would do a great job and make a difference… BUT politics in Nigeria is dirty and dangerous. And I don’t want anything to soil you or harm you.”
My response was that our politics will always remain dirty and dangerous if the good people always avoid it. If the people who truly care about the state of our country don’t begin to participate in politics then we will never turn things around. We have to move past pointing fingers and complaining…to doing something about it.
So Susu and I did a lot of talking and praying together, and thank God she finally agreed. So I began this journey…one that I would never have been able to withstand if she didn’t stand with me.
The life of a genuine public servant is tough. And it’s tough on your spouse too. There’s so much required of you… your time, talent and treasure… your sacrifice, tough skin and strength… your faith and finances. This much is certainly true – truly running for office, with the right intentions, is physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually the most draining thing you could ever do.
There’s no way I’d have been able to do this without Susu. So today please take a moment to help me say thank you to Mrs W. My friend and lover. My personal person and purpose partner.

I joined politics to change the system not working – Singer Banky W
Kemi Filani recalls that weeks ago, Banky W said he joined politics to change the system that was not working.
“We must engage with the system from where it is and fight for what we stand for and what we want to happen,” he said.
The Peoples Democratic Party House of Representatives candidate for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency made this known when he appeared on Arise TV’s The Morning Show.
He continued, “We need more people to participate in politics. I have participated in peaceful protests just like anybody that I know among my peers.
“But the goal of activism and advocacy is improvement and if you haven’t seen the impact you seek, then that activism is not enough.
“So, for me, the message started changing from just raising awareness via activism and advocacy to saying we have to start moving from protests to politics.
“We have to start taking these energies and channeling them toward getting like-minds into the government and using that consensus of like-minds to get a change and that is where my mindset started changing and in 2018 I started feeling like the problem in Nigeria is top-down and the solution is from the bottom up.
“So we need to start focusing on the National Assembly, the Senate and House of Representatives, and the States House of Assembly. So, when I ask young people about their representatives, most of them don’t know who is running for office in their constituencies.
“And I started thinking that if with my education, success, background, audience, following, and voice and I can’t stick my neck out that I can be a part of this system and can bring a solution to the table, who am I waiting for to get involved in the system?
“So, in 2018, I prayed about it and I informed my wife and what she told me was that ‘you know politics in Nigeria is dirty and I know your heart and I know the system is what it is and I don’t want anything that will soil your hands’ and I told her that the truth of the matter is politics will always be dirty and dangerous until good people start to be intentional about putting like-minds in the system.”
