iciHaiti - Sinking of the Mona canal : Call to help identify the remaining victims
Following the shipwreck on May 12, in the Mona Channel (seaway separating the Dominican Republic from Puerto Rico) 19 km north of the islet of Desecheo, which caused 43 victims : 11 dead and 32 survivors, all Haitians, Stéphane Gilles, Consul General of Haiti in Miami appeals to the Haitian people to help identify the remaining victims who lost their lives in this tragedy at sea.
"If you know of any missing persons who may have been on this boat, the Puerto Rican government has set up a website for families and friends to help identify the victims.
Anyone with information that can assist in this identification is urged to visit the website: www.namus.gov
The Consulate expresses its most sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the shipwreck and multiplies the efforts so that their loved ones have a burial place where they can rest in peace."
