Rushawn Patterson, the man charged with the murder of social media influencer Aneka "Slickianna" Townsend was denied bail when he appeared in the St James Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Justice Andrea Thomas, making her ruling, said the allegations of the Crown are serious and sufficient to show that, if granted bail, the accused will likely abscond.
The Crown, objecting to bail, stated that, among other reasons, Mr. Patterson is a flight risk and that, based on his history, if given bail, he may not show up for court.
The Crown also told the court that Mr Patterson has another case in court in St Andrew in relation to an alleged abduction of a woman in 2018.
He was denied bail in that matter.
Mr Patterson's attorney, Dionne Meyler Barrett, said he should be granted bail on humanitarian grounds as he suffers from two medical conditions and is in need of medical attention. She also asserted that her client is not a flight risk.
Mr Patterson is to return to court on September 27.
