(CNN)Local officials said Sunday that a shooting in a shopping street in Copenhagen killed three people. Several others were injured and three were hospitalized in serious condition.
At a press conference early Monday morning, Copenhagen police chief Soren Thomassen said the victims included "a man in his forties and two young people."
According to Thomassen, a young Danish man was arrested "non-dramatically" in connection with the shooting and is currently the only suspect.
"I'm sure the 22-year-old suspect who was arrested was a shooter and had a rifle and ammunition," he said. I believe they haven't, but they won't rule it out until they're absolutely sure. "
Former Danish politician and athletic witness Joachim Olsen told CNN that he was on his way to the gym in the field when he saw a large number of people leaving the mall.
"It looked like something, sorry, but people come out with their hands on their heads, as seen from school shootings in the United States." Olsen said.
"You have people looking for friends, calling friends and family inside, and talking to friends inside," he said. "An old man who just puts his arm around the neck of a person who is stretching his arm and pulls his leg to the floor."
Outside the mall, Olsen said that his arm was "covered with blood up to his elbow." I talked to a man who talked to an off-duty emergency medical worker.
"He wanted to go back, but the police didn't allow him," Olsen said.
According to Olsen, the guards tried to keep the crowd away from the mall.
"At some point we hurried away. The police came and said," Run, run, run, they are still shooting there. "
Denmark's largest Rigshospitalet spokesman hospital told CNN that the hospital had accepted several victims from the incident and called in additional staff to handle the emergency.
"We were all brutally torn from the bright summer just beginning. It's incomprehensible. It's sad. It doesn't make sense. Our beautiful, usually very much. The safe capital changed in an instant, "Frederiksen said.
In a statement, the Danish royal family said, "Our thoughts and deep sympathy are with the victims, their relatives, and all those affected by the tragedy." ..
European Parliament Speaker Roberta Metsola has also expressed solidarity with the Danish people.
