The National Hockey League is taking its All-Star weekend to the Sunshine State in 2023. All-Star weekend takes place on Feb. 3 and 4. The weekend kicks off with the skills competition on Feb. 3, while the game itself takes place Feb. 4.
Leaning into the South Florida theme, this year’s jerseys take inspiration from the iconic Miami Vice color palette, and players will be shooting pucks on the beach as part of the skills competition. The Florida Panthers are acting as host this year, and captain Aleksander Barkov and alternate Matthew Tkachuk will be present to represent the host team.

NHL ALL-STAR WEEKEND SCHEDULE AND HOW TO WATCH
The NHL All-Star Weekend begins with the skills competition on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. ET. The easiest, most cost-effective way to watch both halves of the weekend is with an ESPN+ ($9.99/month) subscription. A schedule of events for the weekend is as follows:
ESPN+ is the official streaming home of the NHL, so of course, they’ll be carrying all the All-Star events as well. During the regular season, over 1,000 games are available to watch live nightly on ESPN+, making it an excellent investment for hockey fans.

ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION EVENTS
Seven events make up the All-Star skills competition, including three making their debut this year. Returning are four classic events: fastest skater, hardest shot, accuracy shooting, and breakaway challenge. The new events include splash shot, pitch ‘n’ puck, and tendy tandem.
Taking advantage of their South Florida location, splash shot will actually take place on the beach, not the rink, and players will go head to head to be the first to shoot pucks at a dunk tank target to dunk their opponent.
Pitch ‘n’ puck takes inspiration from golf, using a par-4 golf hole and a combination of pucks and balls. The player with the lowest score will win. Tendy tandem is an event for the goaltenders, which involves something goalies don’t do very often: scoring goals. Goalies will be paired off into tandems (teams of two); each team will have one goalie in-net and one shooting. The tandem with the most points will win.
The fastest skater and hardest shot are fairly straightforward classic skills. In the accuracy shooting competition, players will compete to the be the fastest to hit four targets affixed inside a goal. The breakaway challenge is essentially a 1v1 shootout where typical NHL shootout rules don’t apply, and goals are scored on a scale of 1-10, so shooters can do anything as long as the puck makes it in the net. It can be as straightforward or as flashy as the shooter wants.
