Metallica announces 2023 ‘M72’ stadium tour. We found tickets

No two nights will be the same on Metallica’s 2023-2024 M72 Tour.

That’s because the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have vowed there will be “No repeats” on their upcoming 12-city, 24-show North American jaunt where they’re slated to perform back-to-back concerts all over the U.S. and Canada.

You read that right.

Night one and night two in each city will be wholly different experiences all performed in the round at the 50-yard line of major football stadiums.

That leaves us with a lot of questions.

Which night will they perform “Enter Sandman?” How about “Master of Puppets?” Will it be at the first or second show they bust out perennial favorite “Nothing Else Matters?”

While we don’t have definitive answers, we do know the best way to find out what Metallica has in store is live.

Also, to up the ante, they’ve enlisted “Night One” and “Night Two” support acts for each stop on the run.

Just a few of those major openers include hard rock veterans Pantera and Mamoth WVH on the first night in each of the 12 cities and Five Finger Death Punch with Ice Nine Kills to close out the short stadium stints on every second night.

James Hetfield and co’s innovative tour kicks off at East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium on Friday, Aug. 4 and Sunday, Aug 6.

From there, they’ll hit major cities like Montreal, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Minneapolis on Fridays and Sundays.

The tour will wrap up at Seattle’s Lumen Field on Friday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Sept. 1 in 2024.

A complete calendar featuring all show dates, venues, start times and links to buy tickets can be found here.

For those who don’t want to wait until tickets officially go on sale, you can also snag seats as early as today.

While inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. local time, folks who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can go ahead and purchase on Vivid Seats before seats are officially on sale.

Be aware that Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Plus, for those who don’t want to break the bank, Vivid Seats is offering tickets for single shows on the run whereas Ticketmaster is requiring that fans purchase ticket packages for both concerts in each city.

Metallica opening acts

Here’s a little background on each of Metallica’s opening acts for nights one and two of the M72 Tour.

Pantera are major headliners in their own right as well. Formed in 1981, the group has sold approximately 20 million records worldwide and have received four Grammy nominations over the past four decades. Just a few of their biggest hits include “Walk,” “Cowboys From Hell” and “Cemetery Gates.”

Mammoth WVH is Wolfgang Van Halen’s rock band. For those wondering, yes, Van Halen is the son of guitar legend Eddie Van Halen. In 2021, the group released their first album “Mammoth WVH.” Prior to this run, the group co-headlined a tour with Dirty Honey in early 2022.

Five Finger Death Punch, originally from Las Vegas, slays. Active since 2005, the five-member outfit recently toured with Megadeth, The Hu, and Fire from the Gods. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon either. Lead singer Ivan Moody recently said, “I can’t quit…I ain’t going anywhere” in an interview with Revolver.

Ice Nine Kills has released six albums since their 2000 inception. In the 22 years since they got their start, the band has made a name for itself with their “horror inspired lyrics.” Literature fans, in case you were wondering, the answer is yes. The group’s name is a reference to Kurt Vonnegut’s seminal 1963 novel “Cat’s Cradle.”

Metallica new album “72 Seasons”

The upcoming M72 Tour isn’t a vanity victory lap for Metallica.

Rather than rest on their laurels, the group will most likely be debuting tracks from their upcoming “72 Seasons” album set for release on April 14, 2023.

A snippet of “72 Seasons'” lead single “LUX ÆTERNA” can be heard below.

WARNING: It’s loud. Very loud.
