NEA head Becky Pringle made $500,000 while fighting for COVID school closures: taxes

The president of the United States' most prominent teachers' union said the group was funding the liberal movement and closing schools during the pandemic. A tax return provided to the Fox News Digital show that fought to keep going.

Becky Pringle, president of the National Education Association (NEA), the nation's largest teachers' union, announced that between September 2020 and August 2021, he will receive a received compensation of $534,243. Last calendar year Latest tax return is displayed.

"Becky Pringle pocketed more than her $500,000 and peddled politics at the expense of returning to in-person learning," said the Americans for Public Trust, who provided tax returns. said Caitland Sutherland, who is her director of executive. To Fox News Digital.

"Children are still feeling the devastating effects of prolonged school closures, all because teachers' union leaders wrote guidelines to keep our schools closed." added Sutherland. ``This is politics at its worst.''

The tax filings further reveal that the NEA gave millions of dollars to liberal groups in addition to cash to faculty associations.

The NEA transferred her $200,000 to the League for Democracy, according to filings. It's a left-wing endowment club co-founded by George Soros that helps set the Democratic Party's agenda, and he's added $100,000 to the non-profit Strategic Victory Fund. Created by a network of donors who have stepped up progressive campaign infrastructure in battleground states.

The NEA also poured $1.2 million into the State Engagement Fund. The funds fund dozens of progressive nonprofit organizations and initiatives across the country. The union also moved funds to the Center for American Progress, the American Vote, the Emerging American Majority, the 16 30 Fund, Voto Latino, and the Race & Equity in Education, which are working on "anti-racism" efforts. .

In addition, the NEA poured $6.1 million into the New Jersey Education Association, making it one of the highest-paid affiliates, tax returns show. This week, the New Jersey Educational Association released an additional call calling for parents to stand up to school boards amid backlash against critical race and gender theories.

When Pringle pocketed a large paycheck and the group supported liberal efforts, she and her union worked to reopen schools and, under the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), I worked quietly behind the scenes with the staff.

From the outset, Pringle, who was elected president of the NEA in September 2020, has been under pressure from the Trump administration and the then-secretary of education Betsy DeVos to push children back into the classroom. vowed to fight back.

In an interview with Politico in October 2020, Pringle said the NEA has been hit hard by strikes, protests, and sick leave COVID-19-related

75} said it would demand security measures. And by supporting lawsuits to block reopening in dangerous states like Florida, Iowa, and Georgia.

Pringle also said teachers should be treated as essential workers. He criticized then-Republicans for arguing that the focus should be on improving the quality of distance learning.

I don't think so," she told Chalkbeat in August 2020. You are responsible for your students, their safety and welfare, their learning, and their lives.

Meanwhile, the Pringle union worked behind the scenes with the CDC to change the February 2021 school reopening guidance at the last minute. The NEA and the Federation of American Teachers, her second largest teachers union in the United States, received a copy of the guidance before the CDC released it to the public, obtained by the Americans for Public Trust and provided to Fox News Digital. revealed in an email sent to

In January 2021, the CDC announced a few reopenings. Following guidance several weeks ago, White House staff facilitated a meeting between CDC chief Rochelle Walensky and Pringle.

“We are reaching out to introduce Carol Johnson of her Covid-her team,” said Maureen Tracy Mooney, special assistant to the President for Education, 2021. I wrote in an email to Carrie Pugh on January 31, 2018. At the time, he was the Senior Director of Campaigns and Elections for his NEA.

"She wants to set up a meeting with the President. Enjoy tomorrow with her and CDC Director Wallenski," wrote Tracey-Mooney. 52}

Less than an hour later, Johnson replied to an email from Pugh , writing: She is working to get schools reopening safely.

The NEA has since issued its Masking Guidance in May 2021 to demonstrate that everyone must wear a mask in schools regardless of vaccination status . } successfully pressured the CDC to strengthen

The NEA did not respond to her Fox News Digital emails regarding Pringle's compensation and the group's funding of left-wing movements.
