'Grease' star Olivia Newton-John dies at 73

Olivia Newton-John, the British-Australian pop star who dominated pop culture of the era, has died after a series of cancer treatments, her husband announced Monday. She was 73

"Dame Olivia Newton-John, 73, was at peace this morning on her ranch in Southern California, surrounded by family and friends. John's husband, Easterling, announced on hisofficial Facebook page.

“For more than 30 years, Olivia has been a symbol of victory and hope, sharing her battle with breast cancer. It has been succeeded by the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, which is dedicated to medicine and cancer.”

In the late 70's and early 80's, Newton-John was one of the world's most famous celebrities. She stole her heart with her 1978 blockbuster "Grease," and topped the charts with songs like her 1981 hit "Physical." This song was her number one single of the decade. Her Billboard

She is credited with selling over 100 million records in her50-year career.

But more recently, Newton-John has become best known as an advocate for breast cancer survivors since her initial diagnosis in 1992.

, you think. creates your reality. So it's a decision. You have to make that decision,'' she said on her "TODAY" show in March 2019.[26] Win and enjoy life.

By all accounts, Newton-John lived her life triumphantly. Born to Brin's father, a world war hero. Irene, a British military intelligence and professor of German literature, and her mother Irene, whose father was Max Born, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist six years later.

Her father got a job at an Australian university. The family moved to Melbourne when Newton-John was five years old. She appeared on the country's most popular TV show "Sing, Sing, Sing". By the time she was 15, she had formed an all-girls group, then teamed up with her friend Pat Her Carol to form her pop duo Pat& Olivia.

In 1966, Newton-John would reach her true potential. She made her debut in 1973 with her third solo album, Let Me Be There. This Side topped out and earned her her first Grammy Award for her track titled. best female country performance. Whether or not Newton-John can act opposite Red-hot John to play the role of Sandy, a strict Australian student who falls in love with and eventually becomes himself, he at least Travolta, who just finished "Saturday Night Fever".

"Olivia Newton-John was her first choice. But she had some concerns," her Kleiser recalled in an email. "She had a bad experience with an English movie and she didn't want to repeat it."

"[At 29] she looked like a 17-year-old kid." I wasn't sure if it was, and I wanted to make myself and John look contemporaneous," Kleiser said. "He was a little bit younger (23). She asked me to take a screen test so we could see how she would meet and see what the chemistry would be like between her and John and me."

Fortunately, the tests worked out well enough to convince her that she was up to the task.

embodied the character at the beginning of the film, and we all wanted her to pull off a sexy vixen at the end," Kreiser said. It couldn't be more exciting.”

Proven.

Her sequel, her sci-fi disco her musical Xanadu, did not fare very well.

At least something good came out of that role for her: She married her co-star Matt Rattanzi in 1984. However, they were married after her 11-year marriage. , separated in 1995.

After Newton-John reunited onscreen with Travolta in her 1983 fantasy romance film Two of a Kind, she seemed to have given up on Hollywood, but their last There was nothing magical about the collaboration.

The film's disappointment was no big deal. In the early 1980s, Newton-John was busy making a lot of money in the music business. She had her biggest hit in November 1981 with her song "Physical". In fact, according toBillboard her ranking, the song became the biggest hit industry-wide of her decade, and remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 consecutive weeks.

Movies and music have become secondary to motherhood and medical issues.

Newton-John became an advocate for cancer research after the tragic death of her best friend's daughter in 1991 from a rare childhood illness. But it took on an even more personal cause a year later when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer.

After going into remission, her cancer died in 2013 and she had her two more relapses in 2017.

Life was mostly a fairy tale, just with a twist. A little more believable than "Xanadu": Tragedy follows her boyfriend of nine years, Patrick McDermott, then 48, going missing and returning from a fishing trip off the coast of California in 2005. It appeared to have occurred when he was unable to heal and was presumed dead. A private investigator hired by NBC's "Dateline" claimed to have found evidence that McDermott faked his own death to avoid his debts and start a new life in Mexico. Later, fate is shrouded in mystery.

``It's human to wonder. told in 2016.

By then, Newton said John had actually let go and moved on,at an Inca ceremony on a mountaintop outside Peru in 2008, where sheis an American businessman John, who married Easterling. Her husband, who founded the Amazon Herb Company, a supplier of botanical supplements, credited her with awakening to medical marijuana as a cure for cancer. "We all die. It's probably the hardest thing to accept as human beings," Newton-John said in March 2019. "I'm 70 and have the most wonderful life, and I have extra time. So whatever it is, I'm grateful for it.
