Stream or Skip: Netflix's "Look Both Ways" Cute High-Concept Lili Reinhardt Vehicle

Riverdale star Lily Reinhart in the Netflix rom Look Both Waysin a full blue official vehicle (and producer get credit). The drama directed by Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu (Rafiki) his com. And it's not just any romantic comedy. Agimmickromantic comedy in which Reinhardt plays two versions of herself, branching out into parallel her universes from a certain point. So, with the concept adapted into the mundane genre, it's easy to conclude that 2022 is the year the multiverse broke. you might be able to carry it.

"Look both ways": Stream or skip.

Bottom line: Natalie (Reinhardt) and Gabe (Danny Ramirez,Top Gun: Maverickone of her non-Cruise characters) are just friends is. To be precise, only psychologically close friends. They are on the verge of graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. they are being talked about. they look into each other's eyes. And well. Her two very attractive characters in the film celebrate in a very sexy way. It's graduation night and Natalie can't enjoy the moment. She is locked in a bathroom with her best friend Carla (Aisha Dee) and a pregnancy test. husband. They used condoms, but they may have failed. she pees Cara sets a timer. Everyone gasps.

There are two ways she does this. The first is that the test will be positive. A five-year plan she discussed with Gabe in the opening scene. This included moving to Los Angeles with Cara to pursue a career in animation. Prolly won't happen now. Unless she decides she won't have children. But she doesn't go that route. That path of choice and divergence isanothermovie, just like the one in which she and Gabe part ways when they decide not to make Whoopies. Gabe, the band's drummer playing a cover of "Young". Nonetheless, having a tour sponsor, doing the sweetest, most right thing, supporting her every step of the way and giving up her life on her tour. Wilson and Andrea Savage) go home. Her parents act like insane movie characters for a while, but don't worry. Eventually it will settle down and become more like a real human being. She and Gabe remain platonic throughout pregnancy and childbirth, insomnia, an explosive diaper phase, and years afterward (their little girl's name is Rosie), but how long can they go without kissing each other?

Then there is the alternative, the test results are negative, she and Carla move to Los Angeles, and Natalie gets a job as an assistant to Lucy (Nia Long), the head of Tall Story. An animation studio that is not Pixar. There is a colleague of hers named Jake (David Corenswet) who is charming, smart and sure looks great right next to her. That's going well, but it's a career matter. Well, it takes some effort to stop asking Natalie to bring her coffee long enough for Lucy to look at her portfolio. There are some goats in the office, casually mentioning one of her favorite animated movies.

The film flips back and forth between her lines of parallel stories, but Natalie has short hair on one side, so you can tell them apart. They're frequently intermingled in the montages that hold the film together, like the superglue I took to my grandma's ashtray after knocking it off Davenport at Rough House. Each universe is jam-packed with complex emotions and fleeting moments of happiness and sorrow. Are we still deeply moved?

What movie does it remind you of?: Look Both Ways is Sliding Doors, but instead of Train she I have an EPT test.

Notable Performances: You know, the whole cast, from Ramirez's earnestness to Corren Wett's charm to Dee's easy-going charisma, is very good. However, the focus is on Reinhardt, who insists she was bought by the superhero mega-franchise to make the bank.

Memorable Dialogue: Gabe always says perfect things: "I agree-your choice."

Gender and skin: Very tame PG-13/TV-14 stuff (at most). Not even a shirtless guy.

Our take: Ah. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Look both ways Cute. Good for aggressive. Definitely good. Its characters are all good, solid people. There are no heroes or villains here as everyone is so charming and always in tote bag outfits. It's packed with advice and self-evident truths for the main character, such as "You have to ask for what you want" and "You're lucky to have what you want." Natalie's struggles sometimes involve the dramatic burden of putting a little too much cream in her coffee. This problem can be solved by simply adding a little more coffee to your cup. But the hole in her life's path is at least universally relevant to many of us in a vague way.

The movie is about frosting her cake on her 4th birthday. layered in a montage with the generosity usually reserved for Without the montage, the movie would definitely be – either considerably shorter or full of hacky dialogue that signifies the passage of time. Because even more montages were one or her two bridges too much. The entwined plot features twists and turns and neat little ironies that show that life is life and who you are, how you are, what you do and what you become. , shows that happiness comes and goes.As you know, in the forest you come across two roads that diverge. So it's not like Natalie has a set of upsettingbeliefsetc., her fashion and style are subject to close attention that doesn't fit her personality.

But you like her anyway, don't you? This is the movie's well-intentioned cute greeting card, one of her sincere cards, not flowers or too religious cards, goofy and saying the giver farted in it She is also one of the I may sound joking, but it's hard not to hate Look Both Ways.

OUR CALL: Look Both Ways appropriates a glamorous, slightly improved featherweight by a talented star. streaming.
