Trump-fueled primary Republican wants to investigate the January 6 panel

CongressmanMike Bost in favor of Davis(R-Ill.) Republican Rep. Lost primary Many of them were critical of Trump, "not in the case of Rodney."

"The really wild thing is that he was one of Trump's coordinators in the last election, even though he nodded from Trump," Bost added. "I think Rodney will win. I'm sorry I was thrown together like that."

Davis asks about a deal with Trump in a short interview and they have a "good partnership" while at the White House. However, he admitted, "I haven't talked to the president for a while." The

Special Committee investigation is an important escalation of House GOP's months-long efforts to undermine Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 elections, January. May have Republicans who were interested in. Six panels responsible for investigating it. CongressmanBarry Loudermilk(R-Ga.), Who was contacted by the panel on a tour he led on January 5, is on the House Management Committee.

And Davis, first elected in 2012, could be seen as a strange fit to lead a Republican investigation into next year's Special Committee.

He voted to prove Biden's victory in the 2020 elections and upheld the proposal of the January 6th committee of the bipartisan who eventually died in the Senate. Was one of the members of the Republican Party. These two votes confronted most of his Republicans, including their leaders. Miller did not hesitate to attack him at those points during the campaign.

He was also ranked as one of the top 10 most bipartisan Republicans in 2021, according to the Luger Center and the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. These modest trends, which are the assets of his previous district, have become a potential responsibility when he seeks to win a more conservative region of the state.

Miller, whose campaign did not respond to a request for comment, nicknamed him"'RINO' Rodney Davis." This is an acronym for Republican Party by his name alone, saying: He "stabbed President Trump from behind by voting for a fake committee on January 6th." Davis supported a bipartisan committee, but he did not vote to form a special committee currently investigating the attack.

After Miller's rally with Trump was announced, Davis responded by promoting his own relationship with Trump. "I hope President Trump and Republican voters know what Mary Millar is carrying," she said, "putting America last in Congress."

House leadership urged the former president not to participate in the race, but members of the Chamber of Commerce Freedom Caucus urged him to support Miller. According to OpenSecrets, the fight within the party is funded by external spending, with Davis spending more than $ 2.6 million and Miller spending more than $ 2.2 million as of Thursday night.External groups are also spending about $ 3.5 on Davis. Nearly $ 3 million against Miller.

And while Davis hasn't gained support,FiveThirtyEight

says he includes adjusting in over 88% of the time. I voted mostly on Trump's agenda. "We're not going away from the work we did together to get through the historic tax cuts. It really changes the way Washington operates," Davis said. He added that he plans to investigate the panel on January 6th, "because it's right."

Its dynamics can be important in the confrontation with Miller, one of several incumbent vs. incumbent matches as a result of the repartition that has driven both parties into a tough battle. .. Davis currently represents the 13th district of the state and is ranked R + 8 byFiveThirtyEight, but has been newly redrawn by both him and Miller. Ward 15 is rated R + 42.

When asked if the January 6 fallout is affecting the race, Davis spokesman Aaron DeGlute missed a vote on Miller's formation of a special commission. The Commission on January 6 claimed that it was "not registered." As a top priority for major Republican voters.

"Rodney's efforts on this issue preceded the constituency change in Illinois and the major campaign he is currently facing. It has nothing to do with the campaign," he said. I added.

But his criticism in January. The 6 Commissions are honestly in line with most Republicans, from minority leaderKevin McCarthyto rank and file members.

Davis stood side by side with key members of the conference earlier this month to blow up the Commission on January 6, which began the first hearing of a series of hearings. Next to him is McCarthy, GOP ChairmanElise Stefanik(R-N.Y.), Republican Research Committee ChairmanJim Banks(R-Ind.), CongressmanJim Jordan(R-Ohio), co-founder and current member of HouseFreedom Caucus, who will be the Gavel of the Judiciary Committee next year.

"Nancy Pelosi's fake committee is illegal and its sole purpose is to punish Democratic political opponents, which does not prevent another January 6th from happening." Stephanique said.

Davis is also working with a group of Republican lawmakers (including banks and Jordan) on January 6 to conduct an informal investigation into the security of the Capitol. A story without directly addressing Trump's claims.

"Our recommendations ... will be taken up by the House Administration Committee and others. Hopefully, when we get the majority back, "the bank said in a future report from the group.

Davis has shown that he will use the perch at the top of the committee to investigate both the current January 6 panel and the security of the Capitol. He has already asked the Election Commission to save the document, which is the first step in laying the foundation for a Republican-led investigation.

He also accused the Commission of avoiding questions about the security of the Capitol. Members say they included it as part of the investigation.

"These are the questions we ask when we make up the majority," Davis said.
