CNN Project Wins Wisconsin Republican Gubernatorial Primary With Trump Nomination

(CNN)In Wisconsin, Donald Trump's gubernatorial nomination wins the Republican nomination, the CNN project, and the Republican reserve The former president's influence among electoral voters has been highlighted in the latest contest, which had him and former Vice President Mike Pence on opposite sides, for the first time since the FBI raided Trump's Florida resort.

In the critical battleground state where Joe Biden replaced Trump in 2020, Tim Michels is the former Lt. Defeated Rebecca Kleefish.

Construction company owner and political newcomer Michels won Trump's support by more aggressively amplifying the former president's lies about the 2020 presidential election. Most notably, an intraparty debate over whether Wisconsin should try not to prove Biden won almost two years before him. Creefish was widely considered popular early on in the campaign. She spent eight years as former Governor Scott Walker's second-in-command and had the broad support of the state's powerful Republican Party organization.

Wisconsin is the third state in which Trump and Pence have endorsed rival candidates for governor. Conservative commentator and election-denier Kari Lake, Trump's pick in Arizona, won the nomination by a narrow margin, while Pence's incumbent governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, said Trump's nomination. He defeated the backing primary challenger and former Senator David Perdue in a landslide.

But when Republicans finished filling out his five states (Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan, Georgia, and Pennsylvania) gubernatorial lists, former vice-presidential nominee Rubber in his match was Trump. won. From Trump in 2016 to Biden four years later. All are expected to be hotly contested again in 2024, and a Republican win on these political battlefields this fall would help ease Trump's return to the White House should he run again. Possibly.

Wisconsin is also home to an important Republican primary in the state legislature. There, longtime Conservative Speaker of Congress Robin Voss, who has mostly agreed with President Trump's 2020 agenda, is being challenged by Adam Steen. Mr. Trump's endorsement came because former President Voss presumed he was not bullish enough about right-wing efforts to force the country to prove his defeat.

Democrats, on the other hand, reveled in the unexpected outcome of what many expected to be a closely contested Senate primary. Lieutenant Mandela Burns wins the Democratic nomination for a CNN project after his top rivals all dropped out in a matter of days. These resignations effectively gave him the nomination and handed him aNovember showdown with Republican Senator Ron Johnson. Ron Johnson is one of Trump's leading defenders in Washington and a prime target for Democrats who want to retain or potentially expand their Senate majority.

Also Tuesday in the Upper Midwest, Minnesota's Republican nominee will face Democrat Governor Tim Walz, who is seeking a second term.

Doctor and former state legislator Scott Jensen has nearly secured his nomination with the support of the state party. However, he made the official announcement Tuesday night on CNN's project, circling past underdogs Joyce Lynn Lacy and Bob "Again" Carney Jr. Covid-19 Pandemic. But he also suggested that hospitals are inflating sick numbers and questioning the safety and efficacy of vaccines.

The race between Walz and Jensen could also help decide the fate of abortion rights in Minnesota. Jensen told Minnesota Public Radio in March that if elected, he would "try to ban abortion." Waltz and other Democrats have already embraced the statement. Late last month, Jensen backed off the more offensive language, saying he supported exceptions to allow abortions in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother's life is in danger.Butlast week Democrats, encouraged by the Kansas referendum vote to preserve abortion rights, are expected to put the issue at the center of their fall campaigns.

Meanwhile, Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar, a progressive "squad" member of the state's 5th congressional district, is a surprisingly close-knit major in his CNN project from his moderate Don Samuels. will survive the challenge. Omar has beaten a major well-funded rival in 2020, but Samuels has a high profile in the Minneapolis-based district, with the support of a big-spending super PAC. participated in this race.

Voters in the current version of1st Congressional Districtin Southern Minnesotawill elect to replace the late Rep. Jim Hegedorn, a Republican who died earlier this year.A special election for Republican districts led to the election of Republican Brad Finstad and Democrat Jeffrey Ettinger. The winner will almost immediately head to Capitol Hill to serve Hagedorn's term.
However, both candidates also participated in the regular primary vote to contest their respective party nominations in theconstituencies that were redrawn ahead of the midterm elections. Former State Finstad Trump administration lawmakers and USDA officials win Republican nomination, CNN Project. Ettinger, the former CEO of Hormel Foods, is expected to win easily on the Democratic side.

History is being made in Vermont

Vermont Democrats nominate CNN Project Rep. Peter Welch to replace outgoing Sen. Patrick Leahy. increase. 52} will leave the office next year after nearly 50 years of service. Welch's decision to run for the Senate created a rare open Democratic primary for the state's only House seat, starting a contest that would almost certainly end in a history-making election.

State Senate Speaker Pro Tempore Becca Balint wins the CNN Project nomination and wins Lieutenant Governor Molly Gray the nomination to replace Welch in the House. A fall favorite, Balint is poised to become the first woman elected to the House of Representatives from Vermont, the only state never to have a female legislature at the federal level.{54

Although they did little to separate Balint and Gray on important issues, their candidacy divided the loyalties of Vermont Senators Bernie Sanders and Leahy. Sanders and leading progressives across the country supported Balint. Gray had the support of Leahy, who said he donated to her cause and voted for her, although he did not formally endorse her at the race, former Vermont governors Howard Dean and Madeleine Cnin. also supported Gray.

But in a race the candidates themselves saw for levels of funding, a flood of external spending on Balint may have helped tip the scales. Invested about $1 million in one Balint campaign. She also benefited from spending by the Campaign Division of the Congressional Progressive Caucuses. Her chairman, Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington, along with progressive senators from neighboring Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, endorsed her.

Connecticut poses little danger to Democratic Governor Ned Lamont and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal. Neither was opposed in the primary.

On the Republican side, former state legislator Themis Clarides is the frontrunner to win her November Blumenthal nomination. Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanovski, like Lamont, was alone in Tuesday's poll, setting the stage for a rematch of the 2018 election.
