A year ago, the United States, Great Britain and other allies faced one of their most difficult and complex overseas operations while evacuating Kabul, Afghanistan. The British Operation Pit and the United States Allied Air Defense Operation were the largest air evacuation operations in recent memory and the largest of their kind in the United States and Britain. Our operation successfully evacuated more than 138,000 people in two weeks. As Britain's Secretary of State for Afghanistan, I have seen the courage and fortitude of British and American men and women, military and diplomats working together.
