High tea, hike or brunch with the girls: Where to celebrate Women’s Day

Women’s Day will be celebrated on Tuesday 9 August and if you have nothing planned yet, you’re in the right place. If you hope to spend the day outdoors at a relaxing event, here are a few things to check out in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.

JOHANNESBURG 

CHAMPAGNE HIGH TEA 

The Vivari Hotel & Spa at the Featherbrook Hotel in Krugersdorp will be hosting a Women’s Day Champagne High Tea. There will be hot tunes from the resident female DJ and an opportunity to be pampered at the spa. The event is R750 per person and will start at 11:00.

WOMEN’S DAY BRUNCH, YOGA AND INSPIRATIONAL TALK 

Yoga is the best way to practice your breathing and practice a different form of fitness. The Balance Movement Studio in Randburg will be hosting women for a yoga session and a champagne brunch. There will also be a talk from general practitioner Dr Hilda Louw.

WOMEN’S DAY JAM 

Some of Johannesburg’s most talented artists will be spinning the decks at Roots Place in Katlehong. SAMA-nominated reggae artist Reign Afrika will be performing alongside DJ Teedo Love, Skado Duba, Mystikal Ebony and many more. 

PRETORIA 

WOMEN’S DAY HIKE 

Keeping yourself fit should be high on your priority list, so why not go for a hike at the Hennops Hiking Trail in Pretoria? The hike is a self-guide hike with a choice of three different trails, 2.5km, 5km or 10km. The hiking trails will be open between 07:00 and 13:00. 

There are also braai facilities available for some family fun or time with the girls. Entrance is R100 per adult and R50 for scholars. 

WOMEN IGNITED 

The Art of Intimacy, an NPO that shines the spotlight on various issues faced by women in South Africa, will be hosting a women empowerment event with inspirational speakers and “sexy shopping” at the Kuungana Bush Lodge in Rietfontein.

WOMEN’S DAY LUNCH 

The Saffron Restaurant at the Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel will be hosting its annual Women’s Day lunch with a mouthwatering harvest table on offer. Tickets are R295 for adults and R150 for children between 4 and 10 years old.

DURBAN

LUNCH AT THE COASTLANDS UMHLANGA HOTEL

BERTHA WINES WOMEN’S DAY EVENT

MasterChef SA season four contestants Tarryn de Kock and Andriette de la Harpe will be in the kitchen for a Women’s Day lunch at the Weltervreden Estate in Stellenbosch. Editor-in-chief of Elle Magazine, Jackie Burger, will be giving a talk about femininity and style.

GRAND DAMES OF THE STELLENBOSCH WINE ROUTES 

Annatjie Melck, Vera Sperling and Norma Ratcliffe, better known as the “Grand Dames of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes”, will be hosting an evening of food and wine at the Simon Wine Emporium on Wednesday 10 August. The event will also feature a three-course meal to go with the wine tasting.
