A man residing in China has reportedly sued his former stepson after getting divorced to the boy’s mother. Described under the surname ‘Tang’ the man is alleged to have sued his stepson, Liu, for the cost of raising him.
Tang is suing Liu for his University costs
The demands of Tang to his former stepson Liu amounts to 35 200 yuan (around R83 207). This amount is said to cover the living expenses that Liu racked up during his time at University. Liu was reportedly in university for four years while Tang covered the cost of the room and board.
Tang officially entered Liu’s life in 2009 when he married Liu’s mother. Becoming a stepdad when Liu was 10 years old, Tang helped support his young stepson until September last year.
After Liu’s mother filed for a divorce, Tang took just three months to sue the young man for the money he spent raising him.
Case goes viral online
Tang’s decision to sue Liu has stirred up debates online with more than 150 million people online aware of the case. The situation is being shared online under the hashtag ‘stepfather asks stepson for 30 000 yuan living expenses after divorce’.
A large portion of people online was angered at Tang’s decision to sue Liu. A local court situated in Chongqing rejected Tang’s request. The court explained that the expenses were paid willingly by Tang, reports Business Insider.
Give us a grandchild or pay up! Indian couple sues son
In other news about viral legal battles, it was previously reported that an Indian couple are taking their son to court demanding that he and his wife produce either a grandchild within a year or cough up almost $650 000 (R10.5 million).
Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad say that they exhausted their savings raising and educating their pilot son and paying for a lavish wedding.
The compensation they are demanding – 50 million rupees – includes the cost of a wedding reception in a five-star hotel, a luxury car worth $80 000 (R1.2 million) and paying for the couple’s honeymoon abroad, the Times of India reported Thursday. Read the full story here.
