Animals Evacuated as Glass Fire Grows in Sonoma County

The Sonoma Community Animal Response Team (CART) came to the aid of a woman and her two horses and five sheep in rural Sonoma Valley, California, on September 29 as the Glass Fire threatened the area, CART said. Sonoma CART has been evacuating and providing care for horses, sheep, and other animals living on area farms affected by this fire season, local media reported. This video shows Sonoma CART volunteers on Tuesday with Misty, who lives “so far out in the middle of nowhere” in rural Sonoma Valley that “it would have been impossible for her and her animals to get out if the fire reached them,” a spokesperson for the organization told Storyful. “When she called she didn’t have a vehicle, so we were really worried about her.” The Glass Fire had scorched 56,781 acres – about 89 square miles – and was 5 percent contained as of October 1, according to Cal Fire.
