Coronavirus updates LIVE: Global COVID-19 deaths surpass one million as Victoria records 10 new cases; Melbourne residents enjoy first night without curfew as Australian death toll jumps to 882

Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley has hinted that the local contact tracing and public health teams being set up across the state could become a permanent feature of Victoria's health system even after the pandemic.

While explaining the benefit of using the local knowledge of localised public health teams, Mr Foley was asked if they would remain once the crisis is over.

"We are all learning right across the globe as to what the public health response [is to] this wildly infectious novel coronavirus," Mr Foley said.

"I would be very surprised if the learnings locally, nationally and globally don't put public health responses ... at the centre of public policy for many years to come."
