Crowd Gathers in Minsk for 'People's Inauguration of Tsikhanouskaya' Demonstration

Thousands marched in Minsk, Belarus, on Sunday, September 27, for a demonstration dubbed the “people’s inauguration of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya,” reports said. Demonstrations against President Alexander Lukashenko have erupted across Belarus since the president’s administration announced his victory, winning a sixth term, in country’s election on August 9. The results were denounced by opposition politicians, including Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who claimed the election was rigged, and the vote was criticized abroad. Tsikhanouskaya and several of Lukashenko’s other political opponents have fled the country. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
