Man dead after being pulled from creek north of Townsville

A man has died after being pulled from a flooded creek north of Townsville on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a popular swimming hole on Big Crystal Creek, about an hour north of Townsville, just after 4pm following reports of a man swept away in the water.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was found and pulled from the water before being assessed by paramedics, but did not require transport from the scene.

Police responded to a call made just after 4pm to reports a person was missing in water, with the Queensland Ambulance Service and crews from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services' Ingham base arriving in support.

The Rescue 510 helicopter from Cairns was also sent to the location as emergency services began a search in rapid water.

Townsville recorded more than 100 millimetres of rain in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Owen with flash flooding warnings issued on Sunday.

Roads around Mutarnee and Crystal Creek were closed according to Queensland Traffic with trees and other debris across Mt Spec Road, just south of the location the man was reported missing in.

More to come.
