Collingwood's Sam Murray is expected to know his fate about the time that the finals start after fronting the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal on Thursday.
The 21-year-old defender last played on August 11, 2018, having served a provisional suspension since then after an alleged anti-doping rule violation.
The test was held after the round-19 match last year against Richmond on July 28 but Murray was stood aside when the AFL and the club became aware of the alleged breach. He did not play for the Magpies as they made last year's grand final.
Murray remained on Collingwood's rookie list in 2019 and is fighting to reduce the length of his ban, with the maximum ban for such a breach at four years.
A suspension can be significantly reduced if mitigating factors can be proven.
A date is yet to be set for the tribunal's decision.
