A court in Manikganj today (August 7, 2022) sent a 60-year-old man to jail in a case filed for raping a fifth grader student six months ago at Khaserchar village of Dhalla union under Singair upazila in Manikganj.
Manikganj's Chief Judicial Magistrate Jannatul Bari Sultana recorded the statement of the eleven-year-old victim and sent the accused Mohan to jail after he was produced before the court today, reports our local correspondent quoting Sub-Inspector Sheikh Tarekul Islam, investigating officer in the case.

The accused was arrested last night after a case was filed with Singair Police Station in this connection.
Quoting the case statement, the SI Tarekul said the victim is six-month pregnant.
"Accused Mohan took the victim to the tin-shed shop of 'Nishat-Sifat Enterprise' at Khaserchar and raped her there six months ago. Later, the victim became pregnant. On July 28, this year, the family members of the victim conducted a test on the victim as she developed some symptoms and found out that their daughter is pregnant," stated the case document.
The victim's mother said they have no land of their own. "We live in a rented house and I work as a maid. My husband is a poor farmer. Of the three children, my victim girl is the youngest. When the matter came to light, accused Mohan's sister asked us to destroy the fetus paying Tk 2,000," she alleged.
Asked about taking legal step, she said they are poor and know nothing about the legal procedures.
Contacted, Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Singair Police Station said legal steps are underway against the accused in connection with the case.
