Eight persons were detained in three districts including Dhaka today for selling and purchasing salt in extra bucks taking the advantages of rumour on salt price hike.
Of the detainees, seven were shopkeepers while one was consumer, report our local correspondents.
In Dinajpur, a mobile court detained five people including four shop owners for selling salt in high price at Birganj upazila in Dinajpur, said Ramij Alam, AC land and executive magistrate of Birganj upazila.
In Dhaka, another shop owner was detained from Waizghat area under Kotwali Police Station for selling salt at Tk 90 per kg, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
In Thakurgaon, district administration conducted drives in different areas of the district town and detained two shop owners and fined another Tk 50,000 for the same allegation, said Deputy Commissioner KM Kamruzzaman Selim of Thakurgaon.
Meanwhile, a mobile court sentenced three grocery shop owners to 15-day imprisonment for selling salt in high price at Kalibari Bazar, said Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun.
A rumour has spread about the price hike of salt at different parts of the country including Dhaka.
