The new central committee of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League, an associated body of the Awami League, was formed today with Meher Afroze Chumki as its new president and Shabnam Jahan Shila as the new general secretary.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the committee at the organisation's council session, held at the Suhrawardy Udyan today.

Chumki is an AL lawmaker of the Gazipur-5 constituency while Shabnam Jahan is a lawmaker in reserved seats for women in parliament.
Shaheda Tareque Dipti and Hasina were elected president and general secretary of the Dhaka North Mahila AL unit, respectively while Sabera Begum was elected president and Parul Akter was the general secretary of the Dhaka South unit.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the AL president, addressed conference.
