Couple among 3 killed as bus hits auto-rickshaw in Feni

Three people, including a couple, were killed after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was hit by a bus on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Feni's Chhagalnaiya upazila this evening.

The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 56, and his wife Salma Akter, 48, of Nangalmora village of Chhagalnaiya, and the auto-rickshaw driver, who could not be identified immediately, reports a correspondent in Feni quoting police.

Police and locals said when the auto-rickshaw was taking a U-turn on the highway at Nijkunja 6:00pm after taking fuel from a filling station, an unidentified bus hit the vehicle.

However, the auto-rickshaw overturned beside the highway, leaving its two passengers and driver injured.

Immediately, police and locals took them to Feni Sadar General Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Rashed Khan Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Fazilpur Highway Police Station, said police recovered the bodies and sent those to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, an NGO official, Abdul Kader Mollah, 23, was killed after an unknown vehicle hit his motorcycle on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Tora area of Manikganj's Ghior upazila around 6:30pm, said Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ghior Police Station.
