Explosives cases: 6 BNP men arrested in Savar, Keraniganj

Police have arrested six BNP men in a case filed allegedly for blasting crude bombs, vandalising vehicles, and carrying out an arson attack in Savar and Keraniganj areas in Dhaka on Thursday.

Four BNP men --Akhtar Hossain Kabiraj, 52, Waliullah Walid, 37, Sajib Hossain, 34, and Osman Gani, 45, -- have been arrested by Savar police while two others --Shadat Hossen, 35, and Raju, 35,-- by Keraniganj Model Police, our Savar correspondent reports quoting police.

Dipok Chandra Saha, officer in-charge of Savar Police Station, said BNP activists vandalised a few cars at Hemayetpur on their way back from Aminbazar rally and exploded crude bombs in the area on Thursday evening.

Later, a case was filed against 40 BNP leaders and activists, and 50 unidentified people over the incident.

Four BNP men, who were early today arrested in the case, were produced before a Dhaka court around this noon seeking five-day remand prayer, the OC added.

Mamun-Or-Rasheed, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Police Station, said they also arrested two BNP men today in a case filed for setting ablaze an auto-rickshaw, exploding crude bombs, and attacking policemen and locals at Wayeshpur while they were returning to Keraniganj from Aminbazar rally on Thursday.

Thirty-one named BNP men and some unnamed people were accused in the case, the OC added.

Khondaker Abu Ashfaque, president of Dhaka district BNP, said the two cases were false and fabricated. They were filed to harass BNP leaders and activists.
