Man, who jumped into river chased by cops, found dead

The body of a 27-year-old man, who went missing after jumping into the Meghna river after being chased by police in Daulatkhan upazila of Bhola, has been recovered this afternoon.

The deceased, Noman, used to work at Daulatkhan Fishery Ghat.

Police recovered the body from the Sluice Gate, adjacent to the Meghna river, in the upazila this afternoon, reports our Barishal correspondent, citing Jakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Daulatkhan Police Station.

Meanwhile, two constables -- Rasel and Sajib -- of Daulatkhan Police Station have been temporarily suspended in connection with the incident, the OC said.

On the afternoon of November 24, a group of youths were gambling on the banks of the Meghna River, adjacent to Patar Canal Fishery Ghat in the upazila.

Sensing police presence, the youths tried to escape by jumping into the Meghna river. Three of them swam ashore while Noman went missing, locals said.

Noman's wife Nasrin Akhter filed an unnatural death case with Daulatkhan Police Station in this connection.
