One sentenced to death, 2 life imprisonment for killing banker in Gopalganj

A Gopalganj court today sentenced a man to death and two others to life term imprisonment for robbery and killing a banker in Kashiani upazila in 2005. 

Gopalganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Abbas Uddin delivered the verdict in absence of two of the three convicts, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Md Shahidujjaman Khan, reports our Faridpur correspondent

Samiran Das (52) of Patkelbari village under Mukshudpur upazila in Gopalganj was given death sentence while Yaur Ali Sikdar (60) of the upazila's Tetulia village and Rafiqul Islam Shepon (51) of Shelta village under Kashiani upazila were sentenced to life in prison.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each and also acquitted 25 accused from the case. 

According to the prosecution, a group of robbers entered into the Krishi Bank of Rajpat branch under Kashiani upazila on the night of April 10, 2005. 

Ayub Hossain Mollah (60) the then second officer of the bank sensing presence of robbers, started shouting. He was stabbed and shot dead by robber Samiran at that time.

The next day Shachindra Nath Bala, the then bank manager of the branch filed a case against 28 people at Kashiani Police Station.

After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found the three guilty and pronounced the verdict today.
