Police recovered the floating body of a woman, wrapped in a blanket, from a pond in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi today (September 30, 2022).
The victim was identified as Arifa Begum alias Deepa, wife of Arman Mia of Kalai-Gobinadapur area. The couple have two daughters and one son, reports our Narsingdi correspondent.

The victim's family claimed that her husband killed her due to a family dispute.
Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station, said being informed by locals, the body of Arifa Begum was recovered from the pond from Kalai-Gobinadapur under Nazarpur union around 11:00am and sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The body was wrapped in a quilt, said the OC, adding that the incident probably took place sometime last night.
The victim's husband and his family members are now absconding, said the police official.
He also said that no written complaint has been filed by the victim's family yet. "We will take necessary action if we receive a complaint."
The victim's father, Omar Qazi, said, "After the marriage, my daughter was pressured by her husband Arman on different occasions for dowry. I also gave Tk 2 lakh in several phases. But Arman used to beat her during arguments. This morning, I heard that police recovered my daughter's body from a pond, which was wrapped in a quilt."
"I want death penalty for Arman and those involved in this incident," said Omar Qazi.
