Man killed off Boyd Rd.

A man was stabbed to death off Boyd Road yesterday following an altercation, police said.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said police were alerted to the murder after 10 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found the victim sitting at the top of a stairwell with stab wounds to his body, she said.

“At present, we do not know the circumstances surrounding this particular incident,” she said.

“From the injuries that we observed, we can say that there was a struggle. At this time, I am unable to say who the struggle was with, if it was one individual or two people”

The victim, she said, appears to be in his mid 50s and by all indications is not known to police.

This is the 96th murder for the year, up 17 percent over the same period in 2021.

The Bahamas – in particular New Providence – continues to experience significant levels of violent crime.

Police say many of the murders committed this year were the result of gang violence as gangs continue to clash over drugs and turf.

Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander established a unit to disrupt gang activity and said recently that it is reaping benefits.

While he has said that he hopes to keep the murder count for 2022 under 100, the country is on track to surpass that.
