On June 13, the Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam, received letters of credence from four new foreign ambassadors.

The event took place at the Belize House in Belmopan, where H.E. Heronia Telaku from the Republic of Kosovo, H.E. Maeve Von Heynitz from the Republic of Ireland, H.E. Atsumi Yasuhiro from Japan, and H.E. Kim Hojlund Christensen from the Kingdom of Denmark presented their credentials.

The ambassadors all expressed their commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationships between Belize and their respective nations.

In welcoming the ambassadors, Dame Tzalam emphasized Belize’s readiness for expanded cooperation with their respective countries. She also extended her wishes for their successful term in office.

Notably, the Republic of Kosovo is a young Balkan country with a history of conflict, which recently achieved its independence in 2008. With a population of 1.8 million, Kosovo still faces opposition from Serbia, which refuses to recognize Kosovo as sovereign.

Approximately 117 countries have recognized Kosovo, including the United States, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and China.
