Teacher commends musical performance of “The Martinez Brothers”

BELIZE CITY, Tues. June 6, 2023

The Editor, AMANDALA

Dear Editor,

Kindly allow me some space to highlight a versatile and talented group of musicians called

“The Martinez Brothers”. The brothers are from Georgetown Village, Stann Creek District, and consist of “Supa G”, Adrian “The Doc”, Bert “Madness”, Elroy “Elstar”, Timo and Elsworth Martinez. They lately released one of their original songs, “Gumesela” (Let it start), which is taking Belize by storm.

The inspiration for the song comes about from the arrival of and coming together of the Garifuna people from different countries to celebrate the annual Battle of the Drums held in Punta Gorda. Furthermore, the motivation for the song derives from the many great experiences shared by the participants after each event, as well as from the personal satisfaction in celebration of the Garifuna culture and people.

I was privileged to watch the performance of all six brothers on one stage in a musical extravaganza held in the village last month for Georgetown Day. I was thrilled and stunned by their vibrant and incomparable performance. Honestly, I am not aware of any musical group in Belize where six brothers have performed together on the same stage. This was truly a momentous occasion.

Belize should be appreciative of this multi-talented group, knowing that this initiative has been in the pipeline for many years, and now a dream come true.

Belize and beyond, kindly join me in wishing our musical ambassadors a fruitful musical journey as they continue to make us proud through their positive imprint in the musical arena.
