The Alberta government continues to advocate for the need for provincial police, saying it will add hundreds of frontline officers to its small detachment.
The federal Conservative government on Tuesday outlined a blueprint for increasing police in rural Alberta.

The 275 front-line police officers are added to Alberta's 42 smallest detachments.
Justice Minister Tyler Shandro said the proposed model would have 65 to 85 regional detachments with a minimum of 10 police officers and a maximum of 80 police officers.
The plan included a Service Hub Detachment of 48 to 192 officers and a Service Hub Detachment to serve the larger community and serve as a regional headquarters. Also included are his three functioning city detachments.

Earlier this year, Alberta's local government endorsed maintaining the RCMP, stating that the Provincial Police initiative would cost millions more. said he would disagree. This is because we have not been able to demonstrate how to improve service levels in rural areas.
