German javelin thrower Johannes Vetter missed next week's World Championships in Oregon due to shoulder problems and remains uncertain about his return, the 29-year-old said Wednesday.

"I've been fighting shoulder problems since the beginning of the season, so I decided not to compete in the World Championships in Oregon," Better said in an Instagram post.

"It's hard to say when we'll be able to compete again, and we'll need the next week to digest this decision."

Better He was on the podium at the Tokyo Olympics last year, but finished in 9th place.
